The 8 Defining Trends That Dominated Milan Fashion Week

The Rise of the Bra Top

Designers encouraged us to shed our inhibitions. From the wrinkled textures at Jil Sander to Prada’s spectacular skirts and the seductive energy of Diesel, The Attico, and Roberto Cavalli, every show made me want to dance until dawn. Creative directors communicated through bold trends that I am eager to bring home. My radar is now set on inside-out bags, towering heels, feathered accents, and massive jewelry. Ready-to-wear focused on bra tops, short shorts, leather details, and shades of violet. Here is my breakdown of these trends and why you should embrace them.

Exposed Bag Interiors

Bra tops have become an obsession. We have tracked this evolution since Spring/Summer 2026, and seeing them on the 2027 runways confirms they are here to stay. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons featured bra tops in 21 of their 63 looks, cementing the love for pairing tiny tops with statement skirts. Fendi’s Maria Grazia Chiuri also endorsed the look, opting for triangular cuts that blur the line between swimwear and lingerie.

Sky-High Heels

Your bag’s contents are now part of your aesthetic. Designers like Jil Sander’s Simone Bellotti and The Attico’s Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini are showcasing bag interiors. By using vibrant linings, they add a pop of color to the entire ensemble. Red was a standout choice, though I cannot stop thinking about the yellow-and-red shoulder bag from Jil Sander.

The Hot Shorts Movement

Extreme heels are back, even surprising the most dedicated enthusiasts. Shoes with heels exceeding five inches appeared on almost every Milan runway. Roberto Cavalli and Gucci used this height to channel early 2000s sex appeal. Unlike recent trends, the 2027 version features an ultra-slim heel, offering a modern, rebellious edge.

Massive Jewelry

Hot shorts remain a controversial trend. While they can be difficult for daily wear, Milan proved their versatility. At Diesel, Glenn Martens paired denim shorts with slim-fit button-downs, turning basics into statement pieces. Tod’s took a more layered approach, styling shorts with a button-down under a knit shirt, a trench coat, and loafers.

Bold jewelry is essential for 2027. At both Prada and Gucci, models wore statement earrings, necklaces, and rings crafted from rich, semi-precious stones. While these pieces feel wintry, they are powerful additions to warmer wardrobes. Styled with a fluid mini dress and sandals, they elevate any outfit to a new level.

Vibrant Violet

Violet began infiltrating Fall/Winter 2026 collections and is now impossible to ignore for 2027. This acidic hue is incredibly versatile. Gucci’s Demna utilized it for a nude dress, while Bottega Veneta’s Louise Trotter showcased a brilliant violet blazer. This color has no limits; add a violet piece to your wardrobe before summer arrives.

Feathered Heels

Can you wear feathers in warmer months? Milan’s runways say yes—just add them to your shoes. Blumarine and The Attico used this style to add playfulness and femininity to their looks. It draws the eye downward in the best way possible, and I expect this trend to dominate the wedding guest circuit.

Leather Finishes

Leather accents are the most practical trend from Milan. At Bottega Veneta, Louise Trotter demonstrated the impact of a robust leather belt, proving that some outfits feel incomplete without one. The same held true at Max Mara’s 2027 show, where leather belts perfectly anchored the collection’s silhouettes.
